Who We Are
Ko Wai Mātou

At the Wilderness Canoe Trust, we believe time on the water has the power to change lives. Through guided canoe adventures in Aotearoa's wild places, we create space for whanaungatanga - connection to nature, to others, and to ourselves.

For over 19 years, we’ve been providing safe, inclusive, and meaningful experiences for people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.

More than an adventure, our canoe journeys are about wellbeing, confidence, and belonging. We slow things down, listen to the whenua, and finding calm, challenge, and joy along the way.

He aha te mea nui o te ao?
He tangata,
he tangata,
he tangata.

What is the most important thing in the world?
It is the people.

Our Whakapapa
James

Founded by James Alker, the Chair of the trust, the Wilderness Canoe Trust was created from a belief in the power of the outdoors to support personal growth and care for the environment.

Drawing on years of experience with outdoor organisations worldwide, James established the Trust to offer meaningful canoe journeys through New Zealand’s wilderness, helping people connect, grow, and thrive in nature.
